The Craft of Doing It Properly

Dane Strickland has been climbing trees professionally since 2004. In 2012 he started Hedgeman because he wanted tree and hedge care done the way it should be done — properly, carefully, by someone who genuinely knows what they’re doing.

That same experience is what makes Dane the person people call when a storm brings a tree down, or a branch ends up somewhere it shouldn’t. Emergency work isn’t a side gig — it’s the same judgement and care applied under pressure.

New Zealanders are a hands-on bunch — most of us will happily have a go at anything with a ladder and a pair of loppers. But trees and hedges are less forgiving than they look. Get it wrong and you’re looking at years of awkward regrowth, or a genuinely risky afternoon up a ladder with a chainsaw. Twenty-plus years of doing this professionally means every cut is made with the tree’s long-term health in mind, not just today’s tidy-up.

Jobs are done efficiently and cleaned up properly every time — right down to the last leaf — because a job isn’t finished until the property looks better than when we arrived.
